Babcock University

Babcock University was named after an American missionary by the name of David C. Babcock, who pioneered the work of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria in 1914. He was based in Erunmu in Oyo State, Nigeria.

The university was established as the Adventist College of West Africa (ACWA) in 1959, initially with 7 students. In 1975, it changed its name to Adventist Seminary of West Africa (ASWA). The university was officially inaugurated on April 20, 1999.
Academic divisions

Babcock University academic programs are structured into four schools and various departments which are the basic units into which all teaching, learning and research are structured. They are:

    School of Education & Humanities
        Department of Education & General Studies
        Department of History & International Studies
        Department of Languages and Literary Studies
        Department of Mass Communication
        Department of Religious Studies

    School of Law and Security Sciences
        Department of International Law and Jurisprudence

    School of Management & Social Sciences
        Department of Accounting
        Department of Business Administration & Marketing
        Department of Economics, Banking & Finance
        Department of Political Science & Public Administration

    School of Science & Technology
        Department of Agriculture
        Department of Chemical and Environmental Sciences
        Department of Biotechnology and Biological Sciences
        Department of Computer Science & Mathematics
        Department of Health Sciences

There are also plans in place to start a medical school which would be called Ben Carson School of Medicine. The school is currently carrying out fundraising activities to complete this 3 billion Naira project
