Youthful magnate extends Midas touch to lifestyle mag

At age 12 he earned £10 a week doing paper rounds. Never one to rest on his oars, at 15 he got off to a great start in business holding school football, basketball and table tournaments.
When he hit 24, he became the first individual to start urban ringtones in Europe. But all that is megabucks history because today, he is an entrepreneur with several awards in his kitty who just happens to be all set for more – this time the proposed launch of OK! Magazine in the country come January 28, 2012. For the record, OK!, the worldâ's foremost celebrity softsell, boasts over 50 million readers worldwide – and the youngster-turned-entrepreneur with the Midas touch is youthful Alexander Amosun, IT guru and great inspiration to budding whiz kids. 'Nigeria is home. I’ve always said that if you can make it in another country and not in yours you’re not a true entrepreneur,' explains Amosun as regards what inspired his move to introduce the revolutionary magazine into the country. At present, there is a plethora of magazines in the market, but he insists OK! Magazine is a softsell with a difference that will fill the vacuum on newsstands and bookshelves which only the truly observant can notice: 'I believe there is room for another vibrant magazine in Nigeria.' OK! Magazine is celebrating Nigerian talents on a global scale, and like Amosun discloses, 60 percent of its content will focus on Nigerian celebrities, while 20 percent will give local stars the spotlight. 'We are focused on reaching a wider audience, not only through the traditional street, but also through hotels, shops, petrol stations and airlines,' says Amosun as regards public accessibility to the groundbreaking magazine. The young magnate has never pulled his punches ‘success story-wise’, and he is not about to start at this point. He says the magazine - which will break the market with 100, 000 copies in Nigeria, the US and UK, and in the second quarter we will be distributing to West Africa and other nations - will have a profound impact on Nigerians who have always loved the inside track on celebrity lifestyles. 'It will also give the international scene a true reflection of Nigerian celebrities who are doing great things globally,' he adds. It would surely interest the business-inclined to note that Amosun is investing $250, 000 into PR for the project. He is reasonably sure of its successful launch, and is not too shy to tell whosoever cares to listen that a good thing is in the offing: 'With creative content and quality print, we can achieve more. Itâ's going to be a challenge, but the OK! Nigeria team is ready for it.' OK! Magazine is owned by the independent publishers, Northern & Shell Worldwide, but will be managed by Kamson Luxury Group, the brainchild of owned Amosu. He says he created the group to acquire brands into Africa, and OK! Magazine is only the first among many to come.
