THE NIGERIA OF MY DREAMS (PART 1).‘Arise O compatriots’ these are the first words of our national anthem, chorale or national hymn, this is supposed to be a clarion call on all citizens of our great nation to be patriotic and to imbibe the spirit of brotherliness and also to build a great nation despite our socio-cultural, ethnic and religious diversity. It is also an official national song honoring the spirit of our native land. Some anthems specifically celebrate a historical personage or event; others exalt the beauty of the country. A number of anthems are simply melodies without words, often no more than brief fanfares.Ever since I was a boy I have always craved and dreamed of a nation with possibilities. How could we the sons of the land grovel for? Basic health care facilities amidst the billions of naira budgeted yearly by the Federal Government under the auspices of annual budget. Why? Access to basic life amenities and conveniences, what we call luxury in this country is considered necessity in other lands across the globe. Why? Employment. Why is our teeming youths roaming the streets daily all in search of employments all to no avail, as a result indulging in some unwholesome activities like hostage taking, arm robbing, terrorism, hooliganism, cyber crimes and a host of others yet our government are turning away their necks from our plights like they never cared. Why? Good governance which is supposed to be our right as a democratic nation. Why? Security amidst the presence of the Nigeria police, Civil defense corps and other security agencies nationwide, it is no news we now sleep with an eye open, businesses are not on the safe side, lives and properties of citizens are always on jeopardy and peril. Why? Infrastructural development amidst the massive wealth, human and natural resources that abound. Why? Power supply which is supposed to be the bedrock for economic growth has turned treasure to Nigerians, the usage of generating set has turned luxury for us all (I beta pass my neighbor) and as such harnessing the emission of toxic waste into the atmosphere which in turn promotes global warming causing a deplorable health hazard to mankind, the big question is where are the billions budgeted yearly to boost power supply? Why?I believe Nigeria has failed as a nation our leaders has failed us and are still failing us, democracy has turned a thorn on the flesh of all Nigerians, where are we heading and who is piloting the affairs of this country is a big question I still can’t answer. Why should our electoral bodies be controlled by our incumbent leaders? Why?Why should corpers be treated as refugees all because they are serving their motherland? THE NIGERIA OF MY ANTICIPATION.The Nigeria I have always dreamed and craved for is a Nigeria where: There will be a proper health care delivery system, where all Nigerians will have access to proper health care services in spite of their religious, cultural and ethnic affiliation, with no form of discrimination, prejudice, inequity, bigotry, intolerance and unfairness. Access to basic life amenities would be free and within reach and wholly regarded as a necessity not luxury. All youths despite their gender, age and other social affiliation will be gainfully employed with a balanced salary structure. A government that will portray the essence of true democracy, a government of the people, by the people and for the people, a government poised to serve and not to be served. The security of lives and property will be the watchword for all security outfits nationwide. A nation where terrorism, hostage taking, militancy and others will be reduced to its minimal. A nation that can easily be mistaken for the Great Britain and the United States of America because of its endowment in infrastructural development. Power supply would turn part of our daily lives as Nigerians Our youths will be treated with core values. Education is free for all and sundry. Religious and ethnic violence will be a thing of the past.I aint no Martin Luther King or a philosopher, but I am being inspired by positivity and sanguinity. I’m been propelled by a driven force that sometimes I have no answers to, maybe it is due to my unprecedented love for my nation. One thing is sure and that is the fact that the problem with Nigeria today is our orientation. We need to change our general mindset and alignments.
