Port Harcourt rally stampede is heartbreaking - Princewill

By Nwaorgu Faustinus

Prince Tonye Princewill the Leader of PrincewillPolitical Associates (PPA) has described the stampede during the PDPSouth-South Zonal rally in Port Harcourt which claimed the lives of some of theirpeople as “heartbreaking, sad, unfortunate, tragic but avoidable”.

He urged the relevant authorities to carryout thorough investigationwith a view to unraveling the remote causes of the incident to avoidreoccurrence.

According to him, “This is just the beginning of the political campaign season so this must be thelast incident we read of such sad incident of Nigerians losing their lives because ofpolitics. As we pray for God to grant the souls of the departed eternal rest wepray that their families will be given the fortitude to bear their irreparableloss. We urge the people of the South-South to see this incident as one ofthose sacrifices the region has rendered for the future greatness of ourcountry and evolution and growth of democracy in Nigeria. If we learn from thelessons of this ugly incident and avoid a repetition, we will all be strongerfor it”.

In an online press statement signed by PPA media consultant,Chief Eze Chukwuemeka commended Governor Amaechi for visiting the mortuary, hospitals to sympathize with the bereaved and ensuring that proper medicalattention is given to those still in the hospitals by promising to offset theirmedical bills.

Princewill Political Associates PPA also commended theefforts of the Rivers State Government Emergency Medical Services, the TIMARIVand the Police also for their quick response in evacuating the victims forimmediate attention. “We are proud of their efficiency and efficacy in thisregard and wish that they improve on their outputs for the ideal Rivers Statewe are currently building”, PPA eulogized.

In spite of the sad incident, PPA said: “We are consoledby the fact that after much permutations and mischievous calculations the PDPFlag was duly given to the authentic owner, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi to flythe PDP flag in Rivers State as itsgubernatorial candidate. The public could recall that at the same Port Harcourt Liberation Stadiumin 2007 those who play god in PDP then denied the Governor the PDP Flag evenafter winning the PDP Primaries at the time. With this development, the greatfeats of the Governor and the caliber of people selected to run the re-electioncampaign which includes four key leaders of the Princewill Political Associates(PPA), the people of Rivers State and the PDP Leadership can be rest assuredthat with their hard work and support we will be witnesses to the inaugurationof Rt. Hon Amaechi as the next Governor of Rivers State come May, 2011”.

It is important to note that the 2011 Rt. Hon. RotimiChibuike Amaechi Re-election Campaign Team has the following key leaders of PPAas members - Prince Tonye Princewill as a member of the Fund Raising Committee,Chief Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikeanya the PPA Chairman as the Deputy Chairman of theLogistics Committee, Bar Osima Ginah the PPA Secretary as the Secretary of thePlanning Committee, Chief Gani Topba the Mobilization Leader of PPA as a memberof Civil Society Committeeof the Campaign Team while Chief Eze C Eze the Media Consultant to PPA is amember of the Media Team of the Campaign Team.

The group (PPA) expects this trend to progress to thezones; the local governments and the wards where each and every PPA member willbe waiting to do what is necessary to make Amaechi 2011 a reality.

“Our biggest opposition is Complacency and notnecessarily the so called opposition political parties in the State”, PPAnoted.
