Comrade Chidi Anthony Opara is a Nigerian Poet and News reporter. He was born on the 8th day of August, 1963 in Umude Avuvu in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State Nigeria. He had his primary education at Community Primary school Umude Avuvu from 1971 to 1977 and his post-primary education at Enyiogugu Secondary school in Aboh-Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo state, Nigeria from 1977 to 1982. He obtained a professional diploma in Advertising from Century Communications Academy in New Delhi India, from 1982 to 1985 and subsequently, worked in the private sector where he rose to managerial positions and thereafter, became a private consultant. While building a career in the private sector, he was also writing poems, which resulted to the establishment of his Poetry website titled 'Homeland Melodies And Other Poems'http://www.homelandmelodies.blogspot.com In November, 2007, he became a member of World Poets Society, a literary organization of contemporary Poets from all over the world. In December,2007, he founded an internet based non-profit making public information project called 'chidi opara reports'http://www.chidioparareports.blogspot.com where he is the Publisher/Editor-in-chief. He is married with children. His Poems include:Homeland Melodies Strain your ears nowto hear decibelsof sound, sound of songs, sound of homeland melodieslearned at feetof pious mother, sitting with mein a darkmoonless night, starless night, with rain threateningand thunderstorms scolding, with bats hoveringand mother's lampour companion.Poets Never Lie How dare they lie? poets, mouthpieces of God, with sacred gongs, with sacred sticks, messengers of God.How dare theyswim in falsehood? pre-ordained priestsof the Almightyon mission to cleansethis abode for mortalslittered with dirtsby amoral mortals.The Just are Few The just are fewstanding on the precipiceof extinction, bathing in the waterof humiliation.In the innermost abodeof frustrationthey dwell, sulking and frowningat ills, ills of our society.They are few, fighting to cleanseour society of decadence.But alas now, in the blue riversome converge daily to wash, to wash away blackmail.They are fewerthe just are fewer, the hallof stoic philosophy is full.A part of usis dead, only a fractionis living.Hawks Hawkshoveredover chicksvulnerableand prowling.Chicks prowled on'cause no place to hide.Alas hawks swooped downand relish chickswith monstrous claws, with barbed beaksand flew homewith joy in their heartsand sadness in my heart.Premonition This sceneof elephantson mines infested groundspoiling for a fightshivers my spine.Resolve differencesand tread softlyoffthat ground, lest you detonate minesand unleash holocoustand kill lifesin few minutes, and confirmmy premonitionof immenient extinctionof lifes.Fraternity I long for the day, day the cordbinding mencut by menwill be joined againto bind all men.I long for fraternity, for one humanity, for world citizenship, for the dayblack menand white menwill meetand proclaimselves brothers, i long for that day.War Boom boom i heard, i shudderedand swallowed bitter saliva.Big vulturesflew past me, my heart bledfor brothers in war.I lay and longedfor peace, for retreat to homesfrom refugee's camps, from war fronts.And i sleptand dreamtthat warswere no more, but i woke, 'twas a dream.Merchants of Misery She sat, mother's henlaying golden eggs, golden precious eggsall day long.Precious eggs, precious to merchantswho camebag ladento buy preciousgolden eggsfrom across oceans.But loone daymother's henthey stole, those merchants of misery.Lovely Dove This lovely dovecrushedunder heavy feetof darkness, count meone weeperat your funeral, count meone dirge singerat your interment.This loverly bearerof lightto illuminate men's heartand lightthis dark stage.Angry Wind The angry windhollered and hovered, pushed and pulledat my roof, my heart sankto my belly, i held my mouthwith my hands, my soulprayed for salvation.The angry windderoofed my abodeand my soulpetitioned my makerabout malevolenceof the vexatious wind.
