As the dust is about to settle on the assassination of late Mr. Julius Usigbe, emotions is running high in the family following the death of their father, brother and uncle who met his tragic end in the early hours of Sunday, 27th of January 2008. The late Mr Julius Usigbe’s body was found along the popular Taxona junction in Uromi, Edo State Nigeria. Upon discovery, the body of the deceased was found hacked to death, with the right arms and both legs completely severed from the body and laid inches away from the corpse. Indications were that Late Mr Usigbe was tortured before he finally bled to death. It is yet unknown the whereabouts of the assailant and the motivation behind the murder. Before his death it was alleged that Mr Usigbe was under perpetual threats from elements within the locality forcing him to seek the relocation of his eldest son, Mr George Usigbe, to Benin City with the aid of his brother-in-law, Mr. Christian Ojeremen, to avoid any harm falling on his son as a result of any animosity borne him. The divisional police unit in Uromi have apprehended a suspect in line with the threat and thus far concluded preliminary investigations. The case has however been moved to the Police head quarters in Benin for further investigations.Until his death Mr Usigbe was a community advocate in his home town Uromi. He was known for his selfless service and good-natured disposition; he will be sorely missed by his admirers who are still in shock over the sad circumstances surrounding his passing awayThe mindless and gruesome murder of Mr Julius Usigbe at the hands of cold-blooded killers have once again exposed the awful security situation in Edo State as in most parts of the country, spates of random and unresolved murders are on the rise casting a shadow on the safety of the citizenry and creating an atmosphere of insecurity and fear amongst Nigerian. We call on members of the Police command in Edo state to intensify efforts in finding the killers of Mr Usigbe who have robbed the family of their breadwinner, we also ask that no stone is left unturned in unravelling the mystery surrounding this evil deed and that a thorough investigation is undertaken to get those behind this dastardly act. We call on well wishing Nigerians and Edo State indigenes that might have useful information to contact the nearest police station immediately. Mr George Usigbe has also asked sympathizers to pray with the family at this time of need and to make necessary efforts in disseminating this information to attract the publicity it deserves so as to speed up the arrest of the culprits and ensure they do not go unpunished but face the full penalty of their deeds.Mr Usigbe has not yet been buried as at the time of filing this report. He is survived by a wife and four children amongst who are; Mrs. Felicia O.Usigbe (wife), Mr. George Usigbe, Mr. Gabriel A. Usigbe Mr. Daniel Usigbe and Miss. Blessing Usigbe (daughter)
