AN APPEAL FOR THE RELEASE OF ALL HOSTAGES IN THE NIGER DELTA!

We of the Hope for Niger Delta Campaign (HNDC), a non-governmental and non-profit civil organization are once again appealing for the immediate release of all hostages in the troubled Niger Delta region of Nigeria.

Rising from our plenary session, the need to foster our belief in non-violence as an approach to resolving the endemic and protracted oil exploitation in the Niger Delta region which has brought untold hardship on the people has become a paradigm in seeking an end to the socio-political flux.

The effort and contribution of our Founder/President Comrade Sunny Ofehe in the release of Mr. Arjan Melise, a Dutch national abducted in Port-Harcourt was immense. Currently we are also exploiting the same avenue to see that another Dutch unemployed national Mr. Peter Van Kampen abducted in Warri, Delta State is also released soon.

Since 2005 we have entered into an extensive campaign to bring an end to militancy and violence being perpetuated by militants who rely on financial compensation for the release of their hostages. It is apparent that hostage takings are not the answer to our perennial problems. We must resort to a constructive dialogue and respect for corporate social responsibility on the part of the multi-national companies as a path to a peaceful Niger Delta. We will continue to reject anything that underlines injustice in the region.

We condemn all abduction, hostage takings and oil pipelines vandalisation by armed militia in the Niger Delta region. We call on all stakeholders to adhere strictly to all Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and revisit the socio-economic hazards caused by oil exploitation in the region. HNDC hereby call for the release of all foreign oil workers held hostage in the Niger Delta!

We hereby appeal to the general public to join us in our advocacy for a peaceful and enduring solution to the impasse in the Niger Delta region. Every channel of peace must be adequately utilized and concerted effort will be the catalyst to a change that has eluded the region.

God bless Niger Delta! God bless Nigeria!! God bless Africa!!!
